Just finished playing in our flag football game tonight. Fun times were had, even though we lost. I did jam my finger pretty bad. It still hurts 3 hours later. According to my doctor roommate, it may be broken. I hope she is wrong for once. If it still hurts significantly tomorrow, she recommends getting an x-ray. Ouch. However, I fared better than our poor cadaver. Today, we removed her head from the vertebral column (aka backbone). In order to do this, we had to cut through all the muscles on the back of the neck that are holding her head on. Then, to help us (because none of us wanted to be so aggressive) the TA came and forcefully pushed her skull off the vertebral column.
In the process, he actually (accidentally) broke the neck. The atlas broke as he was pushing the head forward. (Fun fact about the atlas, aka C1 vertebra. It is bone of the spinal column that the skull rests on, and is so named because of the the Greek Titan, Atlas, who held up the world. Like the statue in the picture!) The head is still attached to the body by the muscles in the front of the neck, but the skull is completely taken off the backbone and tilted forward so that the chin can pretty much rest on the chest with the back being straight. If she wasn't a cadaver, this would of hurt. Ouch.
I have a lot of studying to do this Easter weekend because there is an anatomy test on Tuesday. Ouch.
Wow......that's all I can say. Glad to see you are learning something!
