today's distractions include...

Like I said before, there is a lot of time wasted online during finals time.  Most students feel guilty taking a break to get up away from their computer.  Instead, we force ourselves to sit in front of the computer and stare blankly at some powerpoint lecture until, inevitably, gmail or facebook or some other website becomes a distraction.  (Some people, like my roommate, have been known to deactivate facebook and use parental controls to block distracting sites.  It works well for her.  It wouldn't work for me.  I would just find a more time consuming way to waste time until I am able to force myself to study again.)

I don't think anyone can really understand how awful finals week is until they have lived through it at the graduate level.  It is not uncommon to hear people talk about not having left their apartment for days.  (I am guilty of this.)  For some, (definitely NOT me), personal hygiene goes out the window.  According to facebook, the 24 hour study room on campus smells awful.  (Yet another reason I don't study on campus.)  Other people rely on caffeine habits.  I'm pretty sure any gas station, grocery store, or convenience store within a 5 mile radius of campus has sold out of energy drinks.  The Starbucks down the street is making a mint.  How do I waste time survive during finals?  Obviously, I surf the net.  And if I am not sitting in front of my computer delaying studying, I am procrasticleaning.  My roommate was just teasing me because I did the entire sink full of dishes tonight instead of studying.  The other day, I cleaned my shower because it appealed to me more than studying.  Finals week truly sucks.

Anyway, back to the reason I was writing this post: cool stuffs found on the internet today!  Apparently today's surfing revolved around internet shopping.  (Why did Coach send me a personal invite to their outlet's biggest sale of the year?!?)  While I have been able to resist spending any money, I did find these neat things for sale online.

These were my favorite two items that would fall into the "nerdy things for the apartment" category.  I wish Christmas or some birthdays were coming up, because I could think of several people who would appreciate these goofy things.  I think I will need to do some more exploring of this site.

I also came across a new crafting blog that has a bunch of cute ideas of things to make.  Deep down in the blog archives, I may have even found my idea for the ladies small gift exchange at the Keto family Christmas party.  (You thought I was going to post a link there, right?  I don't think so!  It will be a surprise!)  Last year my roommate hand-made all her Christmas gifts.  I really admire that.  It would be neat to do something similar this year, but I am concerned about having enough time.  Maybe if I start now...  Although, to tackle some of the more interesting projects, I will need to learn how to sew.  You hear that mom?  You better dust off that sewing machine, because I want to learn.  (And also because I will have kids someday.  And those kids will need Halloween costumes.  And we all know that the costumes you made for us as kids were way better than anything found at the store.  I'm pretty sure I was the only kid that ever got to go as a hot pink unicorn.)  In the meantime, maybe I will try making these cute antique spoon labels for the herb garden on the patio that is dead needs replanting.

Well, I should probably really get back to studying now.  My last final is in less than 12 hours and then I am free!  (Which is probably as good for you as it is for me, because the next blog post idea I was toying with was a list of things I would rather do than study.  That could get really ugly really fast.)  Or maybe I'll take a shower, because I am still a little stinky from my procrastiworkout.  And then I will study.  Hopefully.
