days 5 and 6

Well I made it 4 straight days before I forgot to post.  I'm pretty sure that is a new blog record.  Also, I realized I had forgotten to post last night as I was laying in bed.  But since it was like 12:30 AM and I had already turned out the lights, I was not about to get up and sit in front of the computer.  So today is a bit of a double whammy.  Anyway, let's get down to business.

day 5

Yesterday I was thankful for the Cardiac 'Cats.  As a loyal fan of the Northwestern football team, I understand why the Wildcats earned the nickname, "the Cardiac 'Cats".  The team will go from being amazing (like in 2004 when they beat Ohio State) to having some really awful and embarrassing loses (the 2005 Sun Bowl) to pulling out some amazing last minute wins (beating Minnesota by 1 point in double overtime in 2007).  I am no stranger to holding my breath as the 'Cats play, awaiting either absolute greatness or pure heartbreak.  Most of this season has been heartbreaking, as the 'Cats lost 5 consecutive games against teams that were totally beatable (in my opinion).  But after yesterday's game, all of the season's prior mistakes were forgiven (almost) as Northwestern upset #10 Nebraska, 28-25.  I love days when I can gloat about the 'Cats online, like this...

Have some time?  Watch the highlight reel...

Yesterday, I was also thankful for new eating adventures.  A group of friends and I tried a traditional soul food combination, chicken and waffles.  Lolo's Chicken and Waffles is a pretty popular place here in the valley.  I ordered...wait for it...chicken and waffles.  Somebody did something right, because waffles and fried chicken are a wonderful combination.  Throw in a little mac n' cheese, and I was in heaven.  It was delicious.  And then I went into a food coma and took a 2.5 hour nap.  True story.

day 6

Today I am thankful for bargain books.  It makes me sad that Borders went out of business.  I could spend hours in a bookstore, so when there are fewer and fewer to visit, I shed a little tear.  That being said, I took great advantage of their need to liquidate their stock of books.  I bought a great many books for not much money.  My mom even took the time to hunt through their stock; she picked out a recipe book for me on making soups and stews.  I love cooking and I love recipes, so this was a good fit.  So when the weather cooled off a bit today and my family mentioned they were having soup for dinner, I decided I wanted some too.  You really can't find many places that serve soup, so I was on my own.  Cue soup recipe book!  I narrowed it down to 3 recipes, before I decided to make creamy corn bisque.  It was super easy to make, quite tasty, and definitely hit the spot.

One thing I am not thankful for?  Finals.  Ugh.  I loathe finals week.  And guess what starts tomorrow...
