Christmas fun and the forbidden fruit!

So, as I'm sure you all know, the lack of recent blog updates was due to me being home on a 2 week fall break. As wonderful as it was to be back in Illinois, there is not much news to report. I spent much of the time sleeping, relaxing, and visiting with friends and family.

Yesterday, I arrived back in Arizona. It was sunny and somewhat warm...a nice change from the dreary cold of Illinois. My roommate and I spent some time running errands in the afternoon. When we came out of Walmart, we were greeted by a large storm. One part of the sky was clear, and the sun was setting. On the other side of the sky was a DARK stormcloud, producing some crazy winds. The palm trees looked as if we were in the middle of a hurricane. Then it started to pour rain. The combination of the bright sunset and the pouring rain created a HUGE double rainbow...the brightest I have ever seen. We could see complete arches for both rainbows. It was beautiful! I snapped a few pictures with my cell phone, but I can't get them from my phone to my computer to post here.

My roommate actually managed to get a 6 foot Christmas tree on the plane with her. I also snuck a few Christmas decorations in my suitcase. So, we spent a large portion of our evening decorating our apartment. Since we could not find a tree skirt or tree topper that we liked, we actually made them ourselves! Obviously, there is no fireplace in our apartment, so the stockings were hung over the couch. We also hung red and green beads over the hallway entrance. Here are some pictures:
Seeing the Christmas decorations in Arizona is kind of weird. People whose landscaping consists of rocks and cacti decorate their houses with snowflake lights and inflatable snowmen. At Target, we even saw light up cacti that could be placed along a path. The packaging had snow right next to the cacti. That doesn't happen! Clearly it is not going to snow this Christmas! Why are they decorating with snow themed items?

Anyway, today's adventure involved picking lemons at the orchard across the street from campus. The land that the lemon trees are on is owned by the school, and part of the land is where the new dental clinic is being built. According to the school's website, students are allowed to pick them. Someone needs to inform security of this fact, because we definitely got kicked out of the orchard. The security guard said that they "don't want us getting curious" around all the new construction. We were no where near it and stayed away from the caution tape roped around the trees nearest the new clinic. (At least they were nice about kicking us out!) We did manage to get quite a few lemons that smell wonderful. We will be making lemonade in the next few days! :)
Well, this is probably my last night of relaxation, as the science classes start back up tomorrow. Today in the sim clinic was nice. It was fun catching up with all the friends I haven't seen in a few weeks, although our wax project was not the easiest and I am still a little sleep deprived from getting up so early to catch the plane yesterday. I'll be sure to keep you updated on any news. Cheers to a happy winter quarter!
