animals in AZ

Quick post time before I get back to studying, as finals are right around the corner. I just thought I'd give you the update on some of the animals I've seen around campus lately...because who doesn't love a good animal story? First of all, I have spotted my first lizard. People here think that is weird, even people that moved here at the same time I did. Apparently, they are all over the place once the weather gets hot. I must have missed seeing them last fall. But they are back, and pretty cute!

Also, there is a hummingbird nest in a tree in the courtyard of the apartment building next to mine. I've seen it several times while over there visiting friends, and it is pretty cool. It is a very tiny nest (about the size of a dixie cup) in a very tiny tree. I never got a chance to get some pictures of it. However, several classmates (and even some administrators) have stopped by with their fancy cameras and documented it quite well. Here is a video that one of my classmates took of the hummingbird feeding the babies. Pretty cool if you ask me.

Finally, there must be a quail on campus still looking for a girlfriend. Every morning I walk to class, he is sitting on top of the brick fence post calling out for a mate. I think it is time he tries a new strategy.
