reasons you don't want dentures

We've had a series of lectures this week about dentures and how to make them.  I've been working on a set in lab.  They are a little bit more complicated than I thought.  A lot of thought needs to go into the design so that the denture stays in and does not rock around.  (Denture adhesive is not good stuff, very messy and very unhygienic.  A good denture will stay in without it.)  However, there are 2 instances in which a denture will never stay in, not matter how well it is designed.  And those are the 2 reasons why you never want to wear a denture.

1. Dentures will always come out when you sneeze.  Picture this.  You are shopping in Costco and have to sneeze.  So you do.  And you dentures go flying across the produce aisle.  (According to Dr. SSK, when patients come in and complain that their dentures come out when they sneeze, she recommends that they cover their mouth.)

2. Dentures will always come out when you vomit.  Picture this.  You are out on a boat in rough seas.  You get seasick and vomit over the edge of the boat.  Bye bye denture.  Or picture this.  After a bout of food poisoning, you are worshipping the porcelain god.  There goes dentures into the toilet.  Want to put them back in your mouth after that?

I'll be keeping my teeth as long as possible, thanks.
