Today is day 1 of being hardcore.
My friend Liz and I signed up for a 6 week "bikini bootcamp" at the gym where we go for Zumba classes. It pretty much entails nutrition advice and unlimited access to all the different classes that are offered (Zumba, Piloxing, Booiaka, weights classes, etc). Since today was day 1, they measured me to see exactly what sort of (out of) shape I am (not). It was interesting to see what body fat percentage I am and what exactly my basal metabolic rate is. It wasn't as bad as I had braced myself for, but I certainly wouldn't call it good. Hopefully those measures will improve at the end of 6 weeks!
To help me lose weight and get fit, I am supposed to stick to a 5 days/week fitness plan and a 1,500 calorie a day diet that is largely protein and fewer carbs at certain times in the day. The diet is going to be the tricky part. I LOVE carbs. I LOVE LOVE LOVE CARBS. Pasta is my go to meal when I am too lazy to cook a real dinner and I nosh on fruit like it's my job. I am supposed to post everything I eat online where the lady at the gym can log in and give me advice/motivation/criticism. I am thinking the accountability/embarassment will motivate me. I think I'll be able to enjoy the workout classes and they seem to be at times that work well with my schedule. But wow, the diet. I already took some initiative by hiding all my granola bars, goldfish crackers, potato chips, and girl scout cookies. I am giving away my chocolate tomorrow in class. Then it will be off to the grocery store to stock up on chicken (yuck), fish, and vegetables.
Hopefully this will be a fun challenge. Otherwise, I might go crazy.
